Innovatrve Shoulder Surgery
r. Michael Greiwe is changing the way surgeons approach
shoulder surgery—litera.lly. Through a new procedure, aptly named

the ‘rotator cuff sparing method,’Dr. Greiwe is enabling physicians to perform
shoulder replacement surgery by accessing the shoulder joint from the back

of a patient’s shoulder instead of the traditional front entry—thus sparing the
rotator cuff from being impacted during the process. St. Elizabeth Healthcare,
where Dr. Greiwe performs his surgeries, is the first healthcare system in the
world to offer the new shoulder replacement surgery.

“About three years ago,l started to explore the possibilities of performing
shoulder surgery without cutting the rotator cuff,” Dr. Greiwe said. “I knew
